Euro 2008 - England vs Croatia

Although they didn’t deserve it, England got a chance to qualify for EURO 20008 in case they win at least a point against Croatia. It was sad to see the proud English wine over their bad luck, and accuse Israel that they will sell the game to Russia seeking for someone to blame for their failure. Only few minutes after the defeat against Russia on Israel, all previous stories were forgotten and England was again the candidate for the European title. Of course, it was clear that English national team is not so good in football in the last 30 years. Although they have many stars in the team, never did they seem more helpless in matches against second and third league teams.

Croatia have no reasons to try in this match at New Wembley. Although they have an excellent team, an ideal fusion of youth and experience, Croats have been defeated in Macedonia for a single reason. They didn’t care. As much as they try to escape from the Balkans, Croatia still have the Balkan mentality that doesn’t allow them do their best in matches that have no competitive significance. Russian defeat in Israel, secured a place on the championship for Croats and we expect them to play for honour and management against England which rarely brings good results. Don’t take this the wrong way, Modric, Eduardo, Rakitic are fantastic individuals but if they play for themselves and the crowd, Croatia will lose their main quality, team play.
