Kvarner Camps
Kvarner it is a place where mountains and sea, cultures and lifestyles collide. The most famous resort in the area is Opatija, with Lovran, Crikvenica, Kraljevica and Novi Vinodolski also popular.
Attracted by it's mild climate and lush Mediterranean vegetation, nineteenth-century Vienna developed the area as the capital's winter resort and summer playground. The rich and famous - among them musicians, writers and European aristocrats - came to stroll along the seaside lungomare and dine in the sumptuous salons of its grand hotels and villas.
Although tourism is the dominant activity on the island, there are two shipyards in Punat and Krk for small-ship repairs and some agriculture and fishing. Vineyards surround Vrbnik and lamb from the island's sheep is especially tasty. Fishermen still ply the sea and olive oil production remains strong, exploiting the groves around Punat, Krk, Malinska and Njivice.
