Rijeka seaport

Album: Rijeka, Region: Kvarner-Gulf

Since the Jadrolinija ferries travel between Rijeka and Split at night you don't get to see a lot, so it's probably better to go from Rijeka to Split by bus and enjoy excellent views of the Adriatic coast. In contrast, the ferry trip from Split to Dubrovnik is highly recommended. Jadrolinija also runs a catamaran on Saturday in July and August between Rijeka and Zadar (205 KN, five hours), which stops in Silba, Olib, 1st and Premuda. Although Rijeka is a grate destination, it does have a few saving graces, such as the pedestrian mall Korzo and a tree-lined promenade along the harbor. Despite some unfortunate postwar architectural ventures, much of the cityscape contains the sort of ornate, imposing public buildings you would expect to find in Vienna or Budapest, evidence of the strong Austro-Hungarian influence exerted on the city's cultural and economic life in the 19th century. The Kvarner Riviera is located next to Istria and is center on the main Croatian port of Rijeka, the busiest port on the Adriatic.
