Album: Porec, Region: Istria

These holiday villages and tourist camps offer a somewhat industrialized vacation experience with too much concrete and too many tour buses for some tastes. However, the hotels, restaurants, tourist offices and travel agencies are almost universally staffed by friendly, multilingual people who make a real effort to welcome visitors. Tourism is all they've got and they know it, and they're not ashamed of it. This is not the place for a quiet little getaway, but there's a World Heritage-Site basilica and lots going on outside of town, and the Istrian interior is within easy reach. Porec continually top the annual poll of best holiday resorts in Croatia, as organized by the Croatian National Tourist Board. Most visitors arrive by car, but you can fly in to Pula Airport to where Ryanair have recently commenced flights to. Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea.
