Porec port
Album: Porec, Region: Istria
On the collapse of the Western Roman Empire Porec came under Byzantine rule, which lasted from the 6th to 8th centuries. It was under the influence of Byzantine culture that the Euphrasian Basilica was erected, with its magnificent frescoes. The Aquilean patriarchs ruled the city in the early Middle Ages but Porec was forced to submit to Venetian rule in 1267. Porec continually top the annual poll of best holiday resorts in Croatia, as organized by the Croatian National Tourist Board. Most visitors arrive by car, but you can fly in to Pula Airport to where Ryanair have recently commenced flights to. Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea.
